Our Charity Work

SOS-Children_Chipata.jpg Claranet became an official sponsor of the SOS Children’s Villages charity in January 2009 and held a series of fundraising events over the last two years to raise as much money as possible for the charity. Claranet employees have also chosen to participate in various external events to help raise funds.

The money Claranet raises through fundraising and charity events is donated to an SOS Children’s Village in Chipata, Zambia. In 2010, we raised over £48,000 for the charity, and in 2009, over £32,000. Claranet will continue to support SOS Children’s Villages throughout 2011.

2009

Fundraising initiatives for 2009 included:

  • Launch Event, Cake Sale (3rd April 2009)
  • Charity Poker (23rd April 2009)
  • Sponsored Marathon (26th April 2009)
  • Claranet Quiz (6th August 2009)
  • Sponsored Bike Ride (22nd August 2009)
  • Claranet City Challenge(15th October 2009)
  • SOS Charity Gala at the BT Tower (9th November 2009)


To encourage green business, Claranet also committed to make a further donation every time a customer chose to switch to electronic billing.

2010

  • 2010 Charity Quiz Night (8th April 2010)
  • Grand National Sweep Stake (10th April 2010)
  • World Cup Challenge (8th July 2010)
  • SOS Charity Gala at the BT Tower (1st November 2010)

About SOS Children's Villages

SOS-Children_Zambia.jpgFor nearly sixty years, SOS Children has developed an approach based on building a community for children who have nobody to turn to. Traditionally, they have provided children with a home, a family and a new mother in a purpose-built local village, where they can stay until they are ready for independent life.

Currently the charity runs 490 of these unique SOS Children’s Villages, and 396 Youth Homes, caring directly for more than 78,000 children in 124 countries worldwide. However, SOS Children’s Villages strategic goal for the next eight years is to increase these numbers and help a million child sponsors give a million children a family life.

SOS Children believe that all children should belong to a family which is why they look after children who have lost their parents through war, famine, disease or poverty. Our support helps fund their amazing work which makes such a difference to the lives and upbringing of children around the world.
