The Challenges

Blue Arrow holds large quantities of sensitive personal data, which needs to be shared around the Group. Blue Arrow requested high-speed Internet access with guaranteed availability to provide a reliable connection and support VPN access to its UK offices. To ensure business continuity, Blue Arrow also required a backup circuit with dynamic failover. All of this had to be done within a very tight timeframe

The Solution

Claranet provided Blue Arrow with the necessary ‘high-speed’ bandwidth through a 10Mb Megastream Ethernet internet connection, with a 2Mb Internet leased line to provide backup. Separate routers were installed at the Blue Arrow head office – one router for each circuit. This ensures that, if the primary circuit fails, the traffic is re-routed dynamically to the 2Mbps leased line using BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), thus eliminating hardware as a single point of failure.

A dedicated leased line provides guaranteed, uncontended bandwidth, which was imperative for Blue Arrow who needed a reliable, permanent, and fast connection to the Internet. Understanding their needs and managing their expectations was paramount - Ian Ellahee, Claranet Sales Manager.

The Result

Claranet provided Blue Arrow with dual resilient Internet connections with automatic failover facility, enabling improved information flow between Head Office, the rest of the company and the web. The customer was kept informed throughout the install process and the whole solution was installed within the timeframe requested by the customer!
