Setting Up Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is the email client that is commonly included with Microsoft Office. This guide covers the latest version of Outlook 2003 and 2002 as well. The following is a step by step guide into setting up your Claranet POP email account.

1) Run Outlook, click on Tools and then click on "Email accounts".

2) You will now be presented with the E-mail Accounts wizard. Select "Add a new e-mail account" and click on Next.

3) In this window, for your server type, select POP3 and click on Next.

4) In the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) window, enter the following:

Your Name: Enter your first and last name(This is the name which is displayed to your recipient)

E-mail Address: Enter you full Claranet email address

User name: Enter the username for your Claranet account, for example if your email address is joebloggs@clara.co.uk, the username you enter would be joebloggs.

Please note that if you have a Claranet email account that is provided as part of a Clarahost package, then the username should be the full email address including the domain name e.g. joebloggs@example.co.uk.

Password: Enter you account password.

Incoming (POP3) and outgoing mail server (SMTP): The incoming mail server should be filled in as pop.clara.net and the outgoing mail server should be filled in as relay.clara.net.

Please note that if you are connecting to the internet using another provider please enter the outgoing SMTP server for that provider. Alternatively relay.clara.net can be used whilst being connected to another provider. To achieve this click on more settings, select the outgoing server tab and then please ensure that "My outgoing server (smtp) requires authentication" is ticked and "use the same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected.

Leave the box for log on using secure password authentication unchecked and click on next to proceed.

5) Click on Finish to complete the setup. You should now be able to send and receive your Claranet email using Microsoft Outlook.
